Answering the Call!

Andre De Jager and Fritz Brough sat in church one morning and realized that there was a need in their community.

There were spaces that needed filling – not just empty seats in the church, but also the empty hearts of their peers.

They decided to enter a period of prayer and fasting – and that is when Soldiers For Jesus was born.
A few days later they would approach Andre (A.D.) Labuschagne.

In their conversations God would broaden their vision, soon becoming one of revival and restoration in their community of Sophiatown, Johannesburg – and all eventually one for all of South Africa.

Soldiers For Jesus is a registered NPO and an evangelistic outreach arm of The Assemblies of Christ, Westdene.

It’s all about Jesus!

We believe that everyone is called to be an evangelist. The New Testament makes it clear that we are ALL called to spread the good news of Jesus and His Gospel.

We approach evangelism in the following way:

Personal Mission Field

Looking at the life of Jesus and the apostles we see that He journeyed with people. Jesus was all about relationship.

We encourage everyone who gets involved with the vision and mission of SFJ to work their personal mission fields.

Your personal mission field consists of everyone you encounter on a regular, or sometimes even intermittent, basis. Your colleagues, you family, your friends, your fellow students – even the cashier and security guard at your local grocery store.

There are many people out there that need Jesus, and we can reach all of them if we are intentional about building and maintaining personal relationships – and living out Jesus in all of them. Planting seeds of hope in every interaction, living a good and honest life, and being unashamed of the Gospel – we will reach those closest to us!

Public Platforms

It is our work to reach as many people as possible with the Gospel, to get them saved and rooted in a local church, and to disciple these new believers towards maturity in Jesus.

But to reach them – the first step in making disciples – we need to spread the Word. We need to use every tool at our disposal. This means everything from printed literature (pamphlets, tracts, etc), social media and online ministry, as well as traditional evangelism methods – like outreach events.

This means directly interacting with the public and sharing the Gospel in every way possible.

Finding your personal mission field:

Practical Christianity

Practical Christianity means doing and not just talking. It means that our actions speak louder than our words.

This includes compassionate ministry (seeing to every day needs – such as food or toiletries), counseling services, support groups, fellowship and prayer.

Practical Christianity is a lifestyle. It means being a DOER of the WORD and not just a hearer. It means taking action wherever you see a need.

Why we sell merchandise:

First of all, we have some great merchandise available for purchase online – and the money from this endeavor goes towards broadening and bolstering the ministry.

Second of all, we would like to distribute as much of this merchandise as possible so that we might flood our communities with walking billboards for thew ministry. These items are more than just mugs, caps or tshirts. They are conversation starters meant to spark interest and get a foot in the door for the Gospel.

Finally, the merchandise serves as a personal reminder to live boldly for Jesus – to take up the work of a Soldier for Jesus, to live the vision and mission of revival and renewal and to carry the light of the Gospel, unafraid and unashamed, into the darkness of this world.
